    Business Safety Tip!

One of the most common ways burglars enter a closed business is by smashing a window or glass door. They may check several adjoining locations to find an easy target and can be in and out of the business in a matter of seconds. Typically, these brazen criminals target easy to remove items such as small computers, laptops and tablets, cash registers, or small safes. While these crimes are not frequent in Rancho Santa Margarita, they do occur and there are things you can do to lessen your chances of becoming a victim.

Secure loose items such as laptops, tablets, expensive merchandise, and tip containers out of view from windows.

Secure cash registers and larger items with locks.

Remove cash drawers from registers and keep the empty drawer open.

Ensure window areas are well lighted and visible from parking areas or streets.

Install shatter resistant security film on windows.

Install and use motion sensor alarms and cameras.

IMMEDIATELY notify the Orange County Sheriff’s Department dispatch of alarm activations.

Please contact the RSM Police Services Crime Prevention Unit at (949) 635-1830 or to join the Business Watch program or for additional information on how to better protect your business.
